The two programs have adjustment layers for tweaking contrast, saturation, and so on. Both programs have tools for adjusting and refining an image's final look. Not sure I have the skills for all the shading. GIMP is a free and open source program designed for photo retouching, image composition and image authoring. GIMP is excellent at photo editing, but so is Krita. It has responsive and capable editing tools, as well as a surprising number of extra features for a free program, including some handy on-screen tutorials. GIMP has a number of automatic adjustments available, while Paint.NET only has a few. Photo Pos Pro may have a bit of an odd name, but it’s a great photo editor for anyone who needs a free alternative to GIMP. Just watched the video for hand painting textures, was very informative. Of course, neither of these programs can compete with the automatic adjustments available in paid programs like Photoshop’s new Neural Filters that use machine learning algorithms to do some truly mind-blowing edits with just a few clicks. I really know nothing about texture painting so have put the video on my “morning over coffee” to do list! If you are looking for photo-realistic textures for your house, you could see if or have anything you can use. And, you are correct, hand creating textures or, even altering existing textures can and do take time, sometimes a lot of time! I tend to stick with photos or pre-made textures usually with alterations since I like a more realistic look for my creations plus, I am not great at drawing. ![]()
